Dominicans living in New Jersey have mounted an impressive effort to raise money and donations for the thousands of people affected by Hurricane Noel three weeks ago. Paterson is home to the largest population of Dominicans living in the state, and most of them are from the provinces of MonseƱor Nouel and San Jose de Ocoa, where the hurricane hit hardest. For these communities, makeshift shelters, blown-out bridges and desperation continue to be their daily realities. Herald News reporter Heather Haddon spent time during November 2007 in the Dominican Republic to report on the damage from the storm and the relief effort.
