2008 All-Passaic County Softball First Team

P: Michele Graham
Hawthorne, Senior

Accomplishment: Graham propelled the Bears to appearances in the Passaic County and North 1, Group 2 finals with an impressive run of 21 wins. Her change-up was the most devastating pitch in Passaic County.

P: Chelsea Ott
Pompton Lakes, Senior


Accomplishment: Led the area with 22 wins, and was a contributor at the plate with 25 RBI. She allowed only seven earned runs this season.

P: Lauren Shaw
Wayne Valley, Senior

Accomplishment: Shaw was dominant thorough out the season, finishing with 17 wins, and ERA of 1.07 and 142 strikeouts.

P: Caity Sacco
West Milford, Junior

Accomplishment: Despite battling a leg injury early on, she led her team to a Passaic County title in her first season as the starting pitcher, finishing the season with 16 wins.

C: Steph Pasquale
Pompton Lakes, Sophomore

Accomplishment: The most feared hitter in the area led North Jersey with 11 home runs and a slugging percentage of 1.338.

C: Holli Bastinck
Wayne Hills, Junior

Accomplishment: Finally playing her more natural position behind the plate, this junior had a .410 batting average, a .573 on-base percentage and a team-high 24 RBIs.

1B: Samantha Bruzzone
Lakeland, Senior

Accomplishment: The team's best hitter led the Lancers with a .459 average, four home runs and 28 RBIs.

2B: Jen Eng
Wayne Valley, Senior

Accomplishment: This speedy middle infielder led her team with 32 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .779.

3B: Julie Leskanic
West Milford, Senior

Accomplishment: She fought through a knee injury and was named the team MVP this season, because of her solid play at third base, and her penchant for clutch hits that propelled the Highlanders.

SS: Heather Higgins
Wayne Hills, Junior

Accomplishment: Higgins led her team in plate appearances and extra base hits and runs scored, and had an average of .398.

OF: Emily Stratton
Pompton Lakes, Junior

Accomplishment: This impressively quick center fielder averaged .440, hit three home runs and scored 30 runs on the season.

OF: Heather Miller
West Milford, Junior

Accomplishment: Battled through an early-season forearm injury, to come back and be an important part of the Highlanders' Passaic County championship run. The center fielder was also her team's most acrobatic and speedy defensive player.

OF: Caitlin Smith
Hawthorne, Sophomore

Accomplishment: Perhaps the heir apparent to Graham in the circle, Smith had a .452 on-base percentage and batted .395.

AL: Emily Karr
Eastern Christian, Senior

Accomplishment: Her 0.90 ERA and 14 wins were indicators of an impressive pitching season. Her 32 total bases also was a boost to the Eagles.

AL : Olivia Gagliardi
Hawthorne, Sophomore

Accomplishment: Led the Bears with a .446 batting average and 25 RBIs. Forced to go behind the plate late in the season, she threw out three runners trying to steal.

Coach of the Year: Jim Dransfield
West Milford

Accomplishment: Led the Highlanders to back-to-back County titles and the team's third championship in four seasons. He also became the winningest coach in Bergen and Passaic Counties with 476 career wins.
